According to the Salt LakeTribune (9/6/1962), Mrs. George Miller and her son were sitting on the foot of the bed in their home at 17 North 5th West in Salt Lake City, when parts of an inner wall fell on the head of the bed.

Gas pipe at 3000 West and 300 North in West Point, Utah, is being taped to stop a high pressure leak that occurred at the same time as the earthquake. The repair took more than 5 hours to complete. Due to the coincidence of timing, Mountain Fuel Company officials assume that the earthquake was responsible for the leak (Deseret News [9/6/1962]).
