University of Utah Seismograph Stations

Released: September 5, 2012 5:45 PM MDT

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a minor earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred at 04:52 PM on September 05, 2012 (MDT). The epicenter of the shock was located in Yellowstone National Park, 12 miles NE of the town of West Yellowstone, Montana. A total of 49 earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater have occurred within 16 miles of the epicenter of this event since 1962. The largest of these events was a magnitude 4.2 on November 23, 2000, 2 miles NNW of Norris Junction, Wyoming.

University of Utah Seismograph Stations

Released: July 31, 2012 6:05 AM MDT

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a minor earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred at 04:27 AM on July 31, 2012 (MDT) in central Utah. The epicenter of the shock was located in the southern Wasatch Plateau, 12 miles WNW of the town of Emery, UT, and 22 miles ENE of Salina, Utah. The largest earthquake to occur in this vicinity since 1962 was a magnitude 5.1 event on January 30, 1989, located 15 miles SW of today's event.

Released: July 13, 2012 2:45 PM MDT

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a minor earthquake of magnitude 3.5 occurred in northern Utah at 1:53 PM on July 13, 2012 (MDT). The epicenter of the shock was located in the Cache valley, 5 mi W of Richmond,UT and 12 mi NNW of Logan, UT.

The earthquake was reported felt in Smithfield and Logan, UT and other towns in and near the Cache Valley.

Press Release

University of Utah Seismograph Stations

Released: April 11, 2012 10:45 PM MDT

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a light earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred in southern Utah at 09:29 PM on April 11, 2012 (MDT). The epicenter of the shock was located 13 mi NNW of the town of Tropic and 18 mi E of the town of Panguitch, UT.

The earthquake was reported felt in southern Utah and northern Arizona, including the towns of Panguitch, Escalante, and Kanab, UT, and Page, AZ.

The magnitude 4.3 event was preceded by a foreshock of magnitude 2.9 at 06:25 PM and followed by four aftershocks of magnitude of 2.0 to 2.6 within the first hour. On February 11, 2012, a magnitude 3.5 earthquake occurred 20 mi to the west of today's earthquakes, near the town of Panguitch.

University of Utah Seismograph Stations

Released: February 11, 2012 10:15 PM MST

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a minor earthquake of magnitude 3.6 occurred in southern Utah at 9:19 PM on February 11, 2012 (MST). The epicenter of the shock was located 2.4 mi northwest of the town of Panguitch, UT. This earthquake was preceded by three foreshocks, the first and largest of which was a magnitude 3.3 event at 8:06 pm. The main shock and the foreshock were both felt in Panguitch. The main shock was also reported felt in other cities and towns, including Cedar City. The area where today's earthquake occurred is seismically active. On January 3, 2011, a magnitude 4.6 earthquake occurred near the town of Circleville, thirty miles to the north of today's earthquakes.

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a minor earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred at 04:27 AM on February 04, 2012 (MST). The epicenter of the shock was located beneath the Wasatch Range, 9 mi east-southeast of the town of Salem, Utah, and 15 miles east of Santaquin, Utah. This earthquake was reported felt in Salem, Spanish Fork, and other cities and towns in Utah Valley.

Released: January 5, 2012 1:50 PM MST

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a small earthquake of magnitude 2.8 occurred at 12:49 PM on January 5, 2012 (MST). The shock occurred beneath the Wasatch Range in northern Utah, with an epicenter 5 mi northwest of Summit Park, UT, and 12 miles east-northeast of Salt Lake City UT. The earthquake was reported felt in Bountiful, Park City, and Salt Lake City, UT.
